Abstract
Our grant-funded redesign of the Indigenous Studies Program begins with a pilot course that integrates an experiential, land-based learning model founded on an Indigenous worldview with the Moodle online platform and Mahara ePortfolio building process. Meeting face to face only during the land-based component, students will camp on the land, engage with Survival Specialists, Knowledge Keepers and Elders, and explore Indigenous resurgence through the activities. Subsequently, students will build ePortfolios to capture, explore and share their experiences. To inform the redesign, we will begin a research cycle to explore student and participant insights, not only to inform the Mahoodle/Land-based learning component, but also to identify potential areas of use for virtual simulations, gaming models, and adventure learning to be integrated in 2017. We will present initial findings to stimulate discussion and elicit feedback on the redesign process and use of learning technologies.
