Abstract
Educators represent a catalytic population that is capable of enacting new ways of engaging with and thinking about the world. Through deliberate education that instills particular attitudes, behaviors, and choices, we can prepare the next generation to be mindful of people, planet, and production systems. To make good on this vision of sustainability, widely shared by the United Nations and other major institutions, we must create meaningful and accessible professional development (PD) opportunities that prepare educators to take on this challenge. One such form of PD was created as an online asynchronous continuing education course called "Integrating Sustainability Science into the Classroom." This paper provides details about the course and explores various affordances, constraints, and future ideas related to creating online professional development opportunities for educators.
