Abstract

There has been growing research and interest to help faculty and students to cope with increasing complexities of teaching and learning by using Tablet PCs. Tablet PC's are similar to laptop computers, but have the ability to process digital ink written on the screen with a stylus. This paper presents our experiences using Tablet PCs in computer science and mathematics classes and outside the classroom. During classes, we used the Tablet PCs to present our notes using PowerPoint and writing notes on the same slides, while the students download the notes and make their own comments. Outside the classes, we used the tablets on everyday work activities such as preparing notes, sending and receiving emails, browsing the Web, installing new software, etc. Students used them for similar activities in addition to their assignments, which they found very efficient for Math courses. In this paper, we describe our results to date, the challenges that we have encountered, our recommendations, and outlines of our plans for future work.
