Revitalising the Learning of Latin: The Recontextualisation of "Literacy" Skills On-Line
PROCEEDINGS

Education Research Network Annual Meeting,

Abstract

This paper revolves around a pilot project, funded by the DfEE (Department for Education and Employment) in the United Kingdom, which explores ways in which ICT (Information and Communications Technology) can be integrated into the classroom. The Cambridge Online Latin Project aims to promote the teaching of Latin at Key Stage 3 (students of 12-13 years old) through the use of electronic resources based on the Cambridge Latin Course, Book 1. The paper describes and analyses the circumstances in which these resources are needed and have been used. It also focuses on pupils' views on use of electronic resources and on the emergence of a broadening conceptualization of "literacy," evident in the data. (Contains 13 references.) (RS)
