Abstract
Abstract: Digital libraries are the cornerstones of modern learning environment. They provide an infrastructure for publishing and managing quality content so it is discovered easily and effectively. Digital libraries provide cost-effective access to a wealth of information for remote and geographically dispersed users, thus making them an effective tool for online learning environment. Despite the creation of many digital libraries, there exists considerable untapped content with individuals in diverse communities. One major hindrance for digital libraries to penetrate is the centralized framework under which they are organized and deployed, thus limiting their accessibility, particularly in publishing. In this paper, we address these issues by proposing, Freelib, a digital library framework that is based on peer-to-peer (or P2P) networks. Freelib provides an efficient environment for sharing course related information for the education community including high school teachers, university faculty, and students.
