LILAQuest: Promoting Information Literacy Skills and Language Arts Through the WebQuest Model

Abstract
The WebQuest Model provides a useful organizing tool for problem-based and project-based curriculum to link related concepts around themes, issues, or problems that are situated in students lives. Students in Literacy and Language Arts Methods for Middle Childhood Educators courses at Bowling Green State University have participated in a project to develop short-term WebQuests centered on children/young adult literature titles or language arts themes. This information literacy and language arts project provides in-depth inquiry into literacy/literature as subject matter, ethical Internet and information issues, and critical evaluation frameworks with new filters to gathering information literacy and text from the web. This paper will describe how the WebQuest Model and this project has provided significant implications for student learning in the disciplines of Language Arts and Information Literacy; student-created WebQuests will be discussed as well.
