Abstract

This paper examines the potential impact of AR within the context of a blended learning environment; specifically, a general chemistry, first-year college course. Flipgrid’s Augmented Reality (AR) feature is currently being integrated into an interactive module designed to instruct students on critical safety protocols within an active lab environment. It is anticipated that through the implementation of AR, learners will be prompted to engage in active learning and their comprehension and retention of pertinent safety guidelines will improve. This would, in practice, directly result in a reduction in safety-related lab incidents. To provide a concrete idea for what this project entails, a detailed description of the AR technology at hand and how the interactive module will be structured will be outlined. Ultimately, the goal of this paper is to create a connection between improved metrics associated with the achievement of learning outcomes, and the seamless integration of AR within curriculum.
