Abstract
The following is a proposal for the design and development of a geospatial curriculum for West Virginia students leading to a high school GIS certification. Geospatial education in West Virginia has grown to become a widely integrated classroom technology. The state GIS and state education communities believe that there is a recognized need for a pathway for students to learn valuable and marketable skills in GIS. This paper describes the issues surrounding the development of the curricular content, a plan for development of the curriculum itself, and a plan to develop a parallel professional development curriculum for the educators who will guide students along the certification pathway.
