Abstract

This paper describes the adaptation of face-to-face staff development workshops for delivery online. The process described here is based upon face-to-face staff development workshops for L2 instructors that emphasize the adult experiential learning cycle: experiencing, publishing, processing, generalizing, and applying (Kolb, 1984). A four phase process was used that included: 1) instructional design adaptation; 2) interaction design; 3) technical design; and 4) presentation design. This developmental process provides a set of systematic procedures for adapting traditional face-to-face classroom instruction for the online learning environment.
