Abstract

The power of Web technologies has opened new potentiality for learning. The purpose of this paper is to explore learners’ perceptions of Openness in the process of learning English as a Foreign Language at a university level. An Open EFL instruction was designed and implemented, which integrated a podcast and a wiki so as to open the learning environment. This study consists of two sections: 1) survey results which focused on the perception of Openness with a podcast and a wiki; 2) students’ reflections on their perception of Open instruction. The results revealed that that the students perceived a podcast as useful learning material in regard to learning speech organization, vocabulary, and delivery. Furthermore, students felt the podcast was interesting and that it expanded their world view. They also tended to perceive a wiki as a good collaborative writing tool. The students’ reflections revealed that they perceived open environment enhanced learning potentials in language learning.
